Uruguay's flagship grape from the country's standard-bearer winery, in the granite hills near the Atlantic coast at Maldonado. Aged up to a year on its lees in steel and large untoasted casks, so it's Tannat with the edges smoothed off: black plum, blackberry and spice, full-bodied but fresh, with ripe tannins. Made for steak.
